Outdated Transforming testing through smart automation.
Learn how a leading manufacturer of industrial machines and PC tools overcame long analysis times and resource‑draining debugging processes. By introducing interface‑based automated tests, the company gained the ability to isolate and verify software independently from hardware, cutting bug analysis time from days to near zero. This breakthrough not only saved over 100 man‑days annually but also improved collaboration between hardware and software teams.

Discover how automation empowered them to refocus on innovation, product quality, and continuous improvement in a complex development environment.

Customer

A long-established European high-tech manufacturer specializing in precision measurement technologies and advanced electrical components.

The company focuses on products such as high-precision resistors, measurement systems, and specialized alloys, serving industries like automotive (including electric mobility), energy, aerospace, and electronics.

It combines a strong industrial heritage with modern engineering to deliver highly accurate current, voltage, and temperature measurement solutions used in demanding applications.

Challenge

One of the key challenges in the project was the inefficient bug analysis process. Testing of PC tools was conducted exclusively in connection with physical machines, requiring system‑level tests. As a result, when errors occurred, they were often reported to the PC tool team for resolution—even though the root cause did not always originate from their component.
On average, the team spent two to three days analyzing each issue, only to discover that around 80% of the bugs were related to the machine firmware rather than the PC tools themselves. With approximately one bug reported per week, this translated to 80–120 man‑days annually spent on issues outside the team’s actual scope of responsibility. This inefficient allocation of resources limited opportunities for innovation, product development, and test process improvement.

When we saw the numbers broken down, it was quite shocking. We were effectively spending months each year on problems outside our responsibility.
